CYCLETOURISM ROUTE

This route goes over the Rioja lands, situated in the north of Spain, at both sides of the river Ebro of which the territory spreads over the regions: La Rioja, Álava and Navarra. Between the Sierra de la Demanda, Sierra de Cantabria and the Valley of the river Ebro, it deals with a route which goes over, in 5 stages, the region of the Rioja wine. In total, this route is 155-kilometre-long, with an average of 30 kilometres per stage and between 4 and 5 hours of cycling, of moderate difficulty and available for people with a little training and a usual practice of the trips. Some of the wine cellars and villages on the route will permit to do a halt during the trip and to benefit from the worthy Rioja gastronomy with a good Rioja wine. In addition to its natural interest, landscapes and exceptional general views, the route we propose crosses 21 small villages, goes along the wineries, the Jacobean Route and the "Vía Verde" Haro-Ezcaray, and places of historical and cultural interest: "guardiaviñas", remainings of dolmens, pre-roman and Medieval villages, the Monastery of Yuso "patrimonio de la humanidad" and craddle of the Castilian language, The Cistercian Abbey of Cañas, the Jacobean Route, Wine Cellars, the wine station and wine museum.

1st day: Arrival at Ezcaray - General information - Delivering of the vouchers of services - Accomodation, dinner and breakfast

2nd day: Ezcaray - Briñas

Distance: 37 km (approx.) Accumulate high ground: 385 m - Vía Verde, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Haro, Wine cellars - Accomodation, dinner and breakfast

3rd day: Briñas - Laguardia

Distance: 26.5 km (approx.) Accumulate high ground: 392 m - "Chozos", rock winepresses, necropolis, wineries - Accomodation, dinner and breakfast

4thday: Laguardia - Navarrete

Distance: 27.1 km Accumulate high ground: 770 m - Medieval village, Wine cellars, River Ebro, Jacobean Route - Accomodation, dinner and breakfast

5thday: Navarrete ­ San Millán de la Cogolla

Distance: 32.5 km Accumulate high ground: 600 m - Jacobean Route, Monastery of Santa María la Real, Monastery of Yuso - Accomodation, dinner and breakfast

6thday: San Millán de Cogolla - Ezcaray

Distance: 28.7 km Accumulate high ground: 500 m - Cistercian abbey of Cañas, Vía Verde Haro-Ezcaray - Accomodation, dinner and breakfast
